The Rise of Zhoushan Ship Electrical Industry Belt

Zhoushan, as a major city in China’s shipbuilding industry, will account for 28% of the country’s shipbuilding completion in 2023. Shunfan Ship Electrical Factory, located in Baiquan Industrial Zone, Dinghai District, has built a radiation circle with its unique location advantage: covering core shipbuilding companies such as Jinhai Zhizao within 1 hour’s drive, and directly shipping to the Liuheng Zhongyuan Shipping Base within 2 hours. This geographical aggregation has led to significant supply chain efficiency – the average delivery time for emergency spare parts is only 4.8 hours (industry average of 23 hours), and the technical support response speed reaches 2 hours on site, which is 12 times faster than that of remote suppliers.

In the 2024 VLCC oil tanker supporting project, this efficiency is fully demonstrated: at 18:00 on Thursday, the shipyard requested console modifications, the Shunfan design team completed CAD drawing adjustments overnight (delivered at 08:00 on Friday), the sheet metal workshop worked overnight for processing, and by 22:00 on Saturday, new components were installed in place. The entire process saves 12 days of construction time compared to traditional procurement models, and reduces dock time losses by 2.4 million yuan per ship. The deeper value lies in the collaborative innovation of industrial clusters: Shunfan and Zhoushan Shipbuilding Research Institute jointly build an electrical technology shared laboratory, and its digital twin testing system can complete short-circuit current simulation (with an accuracy of 98.7%) and electromagnetic compatibility pre testing, shortening the development cycle of new products by 40%.

The green benefits of localized supply chains are equally prominent. Compared to the traditional shipping model from Shanghai to Zhoushan, the direct supply from Baiquan Town reduces the logistics carbon emissions of a single power distribution equipment by 78kg CO ₂; Technicians use electric vehicles instead of flights to travel back and forth, reducing 124kg of CO ₂ emissions per service; Recyclable metal turnover boxes can replace wooden box packaging, further reducing 32kg CO ₂ per unit. According to the calculation of Zhoushan Economic and Information Commission, the localized supporting system will reduce the comprehensive operating costs of regional shipping companies by 210 million yuan in 2023. This dual driven industrial ecosystem of geography and technology is making Zhoushan a key node in the global process of ship electrification.
